There are four unique grade level bands and a jazz band offered at CVMS allowing students to identify and develop their musical talents. Our students prepare for concerts, parades, community events, contests, and many other forums in which they put the outcome of their work on public display. We strive to create a challenging but enjoyable culture in which each student works towards their potential developing the skills needed to excel in high school and beyond.
These students are preparing for High School Band. They have a strong command of their instrument and music reading. They are ready for higher levels of performance. Marching Band techniques are introduced. In addition to 7th Grade Band opportunities, they also have a performance with the Cardinal Pride Marching Band. The 8th Grade Band meets 5 days a week.
These students are becoming more mature, independent musicians. They have opportunities to perform in Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Events and Honor Bands. They perform more frequently throughout the school year. The 7th Grade Band meets 5 days a week.
Second year band students continue to develop and expand the skills they learned in 5th Grade. Brass and Percussion have Band on Mondays and Wednesdays. Woodwinds have Band on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All Band students have Band on Fridays.
First year Band students learn how to assemble/disassemble their instrument correctly, play with a characteristic tone quality, read musical notation, play with a steady beat, and play in a large ensemble. Brass and Percussion have Band on Mondays and Wednesdays. Woodwinds have Band on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All Band students have Band on Fridays.
The CVMS Jazz Band is comprised of student musicians from various grade levels who practice after school in order to learn the fundamentals of Jazz musicianship. As is the case with all of our bands, these students perform at varying events throughout the year showcasing their work and talent.
